Car crashed into Dollar General storefront entrance

CANTONMENT, Fl. NewsWK — A routine weekend shopping trip took an unexpected turn on Saturday evening after a vehicle crashed directly into a local storefront in Cantonment, causing structural damage but miraculously leaving bystanders uninjured.

According to a preliminary report released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the single-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. at the Dollar General store located near the intersection of Highway 29 and Neal Road.

State troopers indicated that the incident stemmed from a simple parking gear mishap. The driver of the vehicle was attempting to back out of a designated parking space directly in front of the retail store. However, instead of shifting into reverse, the driver accidentally put the vehicle into drive.

When the motorist pressed the accelerator, the car jumped the concrete parking curb, rolled across the walkway, and collided head-on with the front wall of the commercial building.

First responders from Escambia County EMS and localized emergency units were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the structural integrity of the facade and assess those involved. Fortunately, FHP officials confirmed that the driver sustained only minor, non-life-threatening injuries from the low-speed impact.

Furthermore, despite the store being open for standard weekend business traffic, authorities verified that no other injuries were reported inside or outside the building. Store personnel and shoppers who were in the immediate vicinity during the loud crash managed to safely move away from the impact point.

The incident remains under standard review by traffic division investigators, and a formal damage assessment is expected to determine the extent of the repairs required for the storefront.
