Francis Russell Rocks: Remembering a Local Veteran and Community Leader

Francis Russell Rocks, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he was a devoted husband to Dr. Caren Garrity.

Francis served honorably in the United States Army as a cryptographer during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1963, earning the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service. After his military career, he worked as a truck driver, known for his dedication while delivering newspapers throughout New York City.

A long-time resident of Milton, Florida, Francis was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he lived out his values of faith and service. As the eldest of nine children, he was deeply rooted in family and community.

His passions included bowling, but his true calling was helping others. Francis was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he played a significant role in mentoring individuals on their recovery journeys. Additionally, he served as Chaplain for the American Legion and was an ordained minister, providing spiritual guidance and support to those in need.

Francis is survived by his wife, Dr. Caren Garrity; his sister, Loretta Rocks; and many friends and extended family members who benefited from his kindness and unwavering support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, located at 6451 Park Avenue, Milton, Florida 32570.

Francis will be laid to rest with full military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Graveside services will be scheduled for a later date. His legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
