SANTA ROSA COUNTY, FL NewsWK — A morning traffic slowdown on Interstate 10 led to a violent collision Tuesday, leaving a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper injured after his marked cruiser slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer.

According to FHP investigators, the crash occurred at exactly 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, on the eastbound lanes of I-10, just east of the Highway 87 exit.

Authorities stated that a 28-year-old FHP trooper from Pensacola was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of the interstate. At the same time, heavy traffic ahead had begun to congest, causing a tractor-trailer directly in front of the trooper to slow down.

The trooper’s marked sedan was unable to stop in time, crashing straight into the rear of the semi-truck.

The 28-year-old trooper sustained minor injuries in the crash. Fortunately, the driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as a 49-year-old male from Fort Myers, Florida, was completely uninjured.

The crash caused localized traffic delays on Eastbound I-10 as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage from the inside lane. The incident remains under investigation.
