Russell A. Courtney, a cherished member of our community, passed away on May 31, 2026, at the age of 77. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Russell served honorably during the Vietnam War.
Russell was deeply involved in his faith as a dedicated member of the Baptist Church. He is remembered not only for his military service but also for his steadfast love for his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Christian Dot Courtney, and his son, Rusty Jesse Courtney. Russell is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Judy Courtney; his daughter, Monica Fortney (David); and siblings, Yvonne Peake and Rodney Courtney (Donna). He leaves behind grandchildren Cody A. Markham (Nicole) and Madeline Jesse Markham, as well as great-grandchild Olivia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Russell’s long-time best friend, Buster Tindel, also remembers him fondly. The family extends their gratitude to Coral Bay Nursing Home and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care during Russell’s final days.
