Remembering Freddie Lee Hopson Jr.: A Legacy of Love and Service in Pensacola

Freddie Lee Hopson Jr., a beloved member of the Pensacola community, passed away surrounded by family. Born on July 8, 1949, in Willisville, Arkansas, he was the first son of the late Freddie Lee Hopson Sr. and was fortunate to be embraced by the love of three mothers throughout his life, including his devoted mother, Vira Louise Hopson.

Freddie accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized by Rev. R. H. Redding at New Hope Baptist Church in Buckner, Arkansas. He was an accomplished student, graduating from Oak Grove High School in 1968 and later attending the University of Central Arkansas. His career took him to Inglewood, California, before he answered the call to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal and Expert (Rifle M16) for his honorable service.

He was well-respected in his profession as a Traveling Manager and carpenter with Greenhut Construction Company, Inc., working across the nation. Freddie is remembered not only for his dedication to his work but also for his deep love for family and friends.

Freddie is preceded in death by several family members, including his grandmother, father, mother, and wife, Deborah Hopson. He is survived by his children, Sharren Hopson and Trayvon Hopson; his dedicated mother, Vira Hopson; his sister, Dr. Joyce Hopson; and his brother, Andrew Hopson, who resides in Pensacola. He also leaves behind a large extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherished him dearly.

The loss of Freddie Hopson Jr. is felt deeply in Pensacola, where his family and friends reflect on his life of service and love. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
