Remembering Gregory Quinn Dawson: A Pensacola Native’s Life and Legacy

Gregory Quinn Dawson, a proud Pensacola native, passed away on June 7, 2026, at the age of 67 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born on September 11, 1958, at Camp LeJeune Marine Corps Base in North Carolina, Gregory was raised in Pensacola and was a dedicated member of the Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church from a young age.

Gregory received his education through the Pensacola Public School System, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1976, where he was known for his talents in the marching band as a saxophonist and as an athlete on the track team. He later continued his education at Pensacola Junior College.

In 1977, Gregory enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for 20 years and earning a reputation as a talented performer in the Tops In Blue touring ensemble. After his military retirement, he transitioned to a career in education, working as a School Resource Officer in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Gregory had a passion for life that included riding his motorcycle, where he eventually acquired a trike, and a love for music, performing with the group Audacity. He was also an avid cook, particularly fond of grilling steaks and frying fish. He enjoyed playing cards and was known for his commitment to family, often checking in with relatives weekly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Bessie Mae Marshall Dawson. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Tate Dawson; children Gregory Quinn Dawson II and Ebony Nakee Dawson; brothers Ernest Dawson, Jr. and Jeffery Eric Dawson, both of Pensacola; aunts Diane Harrison and Gwendolyn H. McCormick; cousin Kendall E. Tolbert; and a host of other family and friends.

A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Joe Morris Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A private burial will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery.
