Remembering Tammy Lynn Layton of Gulf Breeze, FL

Tammy Lynn Layton, aged 68, from Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away on July 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born on December 7, 1957, in St. Petersburg, Florida, she was the daughter of Ronald C. and Katherine L. Harman.

Tammy is remembered fondly by her husband of 44 years, Steven L. Layton, and her son, Cooper Ryan Layton. She is also survived by her sister, Julie A. Harman, and her uncle, William Cooper, all of whom reside in Florida. She was preceded in death by her son, John (J.B.) Brooks Layton, her parents, and her brother, Ronald C. Harman, Jr.

A talented performer, Tammy graduated from Lakeland Senior High School and received a music scholarship to Ocala Community College, where she showcased her singing abilities in numerous lead roles in musicals. Her powerful soprano voice captivated audiences, often filling theaters without the need for a microphone. In addition to her musical talents, she excelled in swimming, earning the title of MVP on her high school swim team in 1975.

After college, she worked as a District Sales Manager for Combined Insurance Company for 11 years, during which she set multiple sales records. Tammy was also an avid tennis player in the 1980s and 1990s, running several tennis leagues and being recognized as U.S.T.A. League Coordinator of the Year in 1989.

Her love for the outdoors was evident through her passion for boating, fishing, and spending time at the beach with her family. Tammy was a devoted fan of the University of Florida Gators and enjoyed friendly rivalries with her husband, who supported the Florida State Seminoles.

A private service and celebration of life will take place this summer on a Dolphin Cruise, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and spread a portion of her ashes.
