Jared Moskowitz Florida 25th Congressional District Campaign Announced Following Map Changes
Florida Democratic U.S. Representative Jared Moskowitz announced he will run for reelection in Florida’s newly redrawn 25th Congressional District, shifting from District 23 after state lawmakers approved a redistricting plan that dramatically altered several competitive South Florida seats.

South Florida Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, who has represented Florida’s 23rd Congressional District since January 2023, announced Thursday that he will run for re-election in Florida’s new 25th District, which encompasses parts of Broward, Palm, and Miami-Dade counties.
Impact of Florida Congressional Redistricting on Democratic Seats
The new congressional redistricting map approved by Florida’s Republican-dominated Legislature last month has been designed to block as many as four Democratic incumbents from being re-elected, and Moskowitz’ CD 23 seat was among those dramatically reconfigured.
The new map changes Florida’s CD 25 seat from one that went for Kamala Harris by more than 5 points in 2024 to one that went for Donald Trump by 9 points, yet political analysts consider it competitive.
Both The Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball rate the newly drawn CD 25 as a toss-up.
Dynamics Shaping the Florida 25th District Race
According to the Moskowitz campaign, the district is 35.9% independent, 31.2% Democratic, and 32.9% Republican. They note it is 25% Jewish. Moskowitz has been one of the strongest voices in Congress in speaking out against antisemitism and political violence.
“Political extremism is expanding, and antisemitism is spreading and becoming mainstream,” Moskowitz said in a written statement.
“I am only here because my grandparents escaped Europe in WWII. My grandmother escaped Berlin, Germany, through the Kindertransport. Because of good people who stood up to evil, my family was able to come to America and build a life in South Florida. So, when I see people in my own party talking about concentration camps or deporting Jews, I am going to be an immovable object to that movement. My kids are never going to hide in attics.”
Moskowitz served in the Florida House of Representatives for Parkland from 2012 to 2019. He was Gov. Ron DeSantis’ first Emergency Management director from 2019 to 2021. He was elected to Congress representing CD 23 in 2022.
Oliver Larkin, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, is running against Moskowitz in the Democratic Primary set for Aug. 18.
Of the 27 members representing Florida in Congress, 20 are Republican and seven are Democrats (there was an eighth Democrat, but CD 20 Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick resigned last month just before she was set to appear before the House Ethics Committee amid allegations of stealing disaster money).
