Lance Cpl. Maliki M. Haynes of Century, Florida, was officially recognized as the Honor Graduate for Mike Company, Platoon 3044, during a formal graduation ceremony held at the depot on Thursday.
The distinction of Honor Graduate is uniquely competitive, awarded only to the single recruit who demonstrates the highest levels of outstanding performance, leadership, and physical and mental endurance throughout the rigorous 13-week recruit training cycle.

Northview High School Maliki Haynes Transitions from Athletics to Military Service
Haynes is well-remembered locally as a standalone standout athlete in Escambia County. A 2023 graduate of Northview High School, he played football for the Chiefs during his senior year, contributing heavily to the team’s historic run to the state championship game.
Local sports fans will recall two defining moments from Haynes’ senior season that cemented his reputation for executing under extreme pressure:
- A clutch, late-game one-handed reception in the playoffs against Union County to completely seal the victory.
- A game-changing 70-yard interception return against Blountstown.
That same grit and clutch execution clearly carried over into his military journey. Haynes’ recruitment into the military was handled locally by the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Pensacola.
Welcome to the Corps
Earning the title of United States Marine is an immense hurdle on its own, but graduating at the absolute top of an entire company sets a distinct trajectory for Haynes’ future military career.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the new Marines graduating,” officials from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island stated in a formal announcement honoring the platoon. “You’ve earned the title through hard work, discipline, and determination. Welcome to the Corps!”
