A Pensacola Beach high surf warning is in effect as coastal Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Baldwin counties face dangerous 20 to 25-foot breaking waves and life-threatening rip currents. Residents and visitors are urged to stay out of the water.

* WHAT…For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents.
For the High Surf Warning, dangerously large breaking waves in
the surf zone builds to 10 to 15 feet over the Alabama beaches
and 20 to 25 feet over the northwest Florida beaches through
tonight. Surf begins to abate Saturday morning but still will be
elevated.
* WHERE…In Alabama, Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal
Counties. In Florida, Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal and
Okaloosa Coastal Counties.
* WHEN…For the High Rip Current Risk, through Sunday
afternoon. For the High Surf Warning, until midnight CDT
Saturday night.
* IMPACTS…Breaking waves can sweep people off jetties and
docks, and into dangerous seas. Life-threatening swimming
conditions and significant beach erosion can be expected. Rip
currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into
deeper water.
Precautionary / preparedness actions
Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening
surf conditions. Stay off of jetties, piers, and other waterside
infrastructure.
