Hugh Lavon Cole, a respected retired pharmacist and longtime resident of Gulf Breeze, passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 90. Cole’s life journey began on October 24, 1935, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he grew up on a family farm with his parents and five siblings.

After his father’s passing, Cole took on responsibilities to support his family before graduating from Oak Grove High School in 1953. He furthered his education at Pearl River Junior College until enlisting in the United States Air Force in January 1955. It was during his service at MacDill Air Force Base that he met Jane Noland, whom he married on June 20, 1958, in Bermuda.

Following his military service, the couple relocated to Oxford, Mississippi, where Cole attended the Ole Miss School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1962. Shortly thereafter, in 1963, they settled in Pensacola, Florida, where Cole began his career at Pfeiffer Drugs, serving the community as a pharmacist until his retirement in 1997.

Hugh was not only dedicated to his profession but also to his church, First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze, where he served as a deacon and participated in various ministries and mission trips across the United States and Peru, helping those in need.

In retirement, Hugh and Jane enjoyed developing their property in Hattiesburg and spending time in the scenic mountains of Lake Lure, North Carolina. Hugh was known for his love of fishing and cherished the peaceful moments spent on the water.

He is survived by four sons, a daughter, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola. A private family graveside service will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

Hugh Cole will be remembered for his unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to family and community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
