John Dallas Peterson Jr., born on May 30, 1940, passed away on April 29, 2026. A devoted family man and community leader, John was deeply committed to his faith and his loved ones.
He cherished his wife, Rebecca Ann Peterson, and together they raised four children: Paige Richburg, Karen McClain, Ginger Bohannon, and Scott Peterson. John took immense joy in his grandchildren, including Tyler and Dillon Bohannon, Zachary Peterson, and Samantha Peterson.
After graduating high school, John served in the United States Marine Corps, later dedicating his life to ministry following a profound spiritual experience in 1971. His journey led him from a successful career in life insurance in Virginia to a calling in ministry.
In 1977, John and his family relocated to Pensacola to pursue theological studies at Liberty Bible College, where he earned a degree in Theology and Missions, also obtaining a Teaching Degree from the University of West Florida. He contributed significantly to local education by teaching at Liberty Christian School and East Hill Christian School.
Ordained as a minister, John served as a chaplain at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola and later directed missions at Molino Worship Center. His passion for helping others took him on several mission trips to assist communities in China, Guatemala, and Mexico.
In 2000, John and Rebecca answered a call to serve as full-time missionaries in Israel, establishing the Shalom for Israel ministry in Tiberias. They provided humanitarian aid until returning to Pensacola in 2008 to care for Rebecca’s ailing mother.
In their retirement, John and Rebecca continued their involvement in the community, worshiping at Harvest Christian Center and enjoying time with family, friends, and their beloved pets.
