Johnnie Mae (Lowery) Cathcart, a beloved resident of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on June 9, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Milligan, Florida, on September 1, 1932, she was the daughter of George F. and Sarah Allie (Kennedy) Lowery.
Johnnie began her education at Milligan Elementary and graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1950, where she was an active member of the basketball team and the Beta Club, earning the title of “Best All-Around.” She later pursued studies at Masey-Draughon Business College in Montgomery, Alabama.
In 1952, while living in Florida, she met Jack Cathcart, who was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. They married at First United Methodist Church in Fort Walton Beach and later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1955. Johnnie spent a significant part of her career working at WSB Radio Station and Dunwoody United Methodist Church.
In 1995, after many years in Atlanta, Johnnie and Jack returned to Pensacola, where she embraced her passions for traveling in their RV, playing bridge, and creating art. She was also a dedicated member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Johnnie is remembered for her strength as a breast cancer survivor and her unwavering devotion to her husband of over 70 years, Jack.
She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Gilmore (Mike); son, Bob Cathcart III; and several grandchildren, including Michael Gilmore (Leah) from Gulfport, Jacob Gilmore (Mollie) from Pensacola, Rae Cathcart from Duluth, and Jackson Cathcart (Kaitlyn) and Kennedy Cathcart from Georgia, along with her great-grandson Roman Cathcart.
A memorial visitation is scheduled for June 22, 2026, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Following the visitation, the family will proceed to Barrancas National Cemetery for a service at 2:30 PM.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Vitas Hospice or the Pensacola Library. They also wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Pensacola for their exceptional care and support during this time.
