Lonnie Joe Veasley Sr., affectionately known as “Joe” by family and friends, passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 74.
Born on December 12, 1951, in Marshall, Texas, Lonnie spent much of his youth in Fort Worth, where he graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He dedicated his life to service, exemplifying generosity, strength, and a deep love for his family.
A proud veteran, Lonnie served in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer (CPO Retired). His military career included service aboard the USS Brewton from Pearl Harbor and participation in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm on the USS Abraham Lincoln, earning accolades such as the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
After his military retirement, Lonnie continued to serve as a GS employee with the United States Government until his eventual retirement from federal service. He was well-known for his willingness to assist others, often prioritizing the needs of family and friends.
On April 9, 1975, he married Linda del Rosario Veasley in the Philippines. Their 51 years of marriage were filled with love, sacrifice, and shared memories, including helping many of Linda’s family members immigrate to the U.S.
Lonnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, cherishing time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was known for his humor, love of sports, and enjoyment of activities like bowling and karaoke. His memory will be celebrated for his big heart and quiet strength, facing personal challenges with resilience.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Linda; children Delicia Fulton (Kevin), Melony Rivera (Melvin), and Lonnie J. Veasley Jr. (Christina); his sister, Velma White; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family and friends.
