Nelda Williams Tronu, a cherished member of the Pensacola community, passed away at her home on June 6, 2026, just shy of her 99th birthday. She was surrounded by her loving family, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Born on June 20, 1927, to Lyle and Basha Williams, Nelda was a lifelong resident of Pensacola. She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1945 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University). She later obtained her nursing degree from Emory University in 1950, where she was elected President of the Nursing Student Body.
After marrying Anthony “Tony” Giglio Tronu, Nelda worked as a nurse for the Escambia County School Board before dedicating herself to her family. Despite stepping away from her professional career, her passion for caregiving never wavered. She was known for her boundless energy and commitment to helping others, whether they were family, friends, or those in need.
Nelda’s life was rooted in her strong Catholic faith, which guided her actions daily. She was an active volunteer within her church and her children’s schools, earning the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Medal of Honor for her exceptional service.
Her family remembers her for her generosity, quick wit, love of baseball, and unmistakable sense of style. “Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend,” her family shared.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church or a charity of your choice. The family expresses gratitude to the nurses and caregivers at Vitas Hospice and invites the community to a reception at the Church Hall following the committal services to honor Nelda’s memory.
