Deputies and detectives with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office formally charged Mario Antwean Wiggins on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2026, in connection with the homicide at the Quality Inn on Pensacola Boulevard.

Late-Night Shooting Investigation

According to information released by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2026. The caller reported hearing a gunshot at the motel property on Pensacola Boulevard and seeing an individual lying face down on the ground.

When ECSO deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a 31-year-old man who had died from a gunshot wound to the head. Law enforcement officials have not publicly released the victim’s identity.

Suspect Booked into Escambia County Jail
