Community Mourns the Passing of LCDR Richard Roy Kirk

LCDR Richard Roy Kirk, a respected educator and devoted community member in Pensacola, passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on August 1, 1951, in Greenville, South Carolina, he was the son of the late John William Kirk Sr. and Dorothy Louise Kirk.

A proud graduate of Clemson University, Richard dedicated two decades to serving in the United States Navy, where he retired as a Lieutenant Commander. His military career was characterized by a strong sense of commitment and integrity, traits he carried into his civilian life.

After retiring from the Navy, Richard became a professor at Pensacola State College. He was known for inspiring countless students through his passion for education and nurturing approach. Richard was also an active member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, contributing to the spiritual life of his local community.

Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Kirk; his brother, John Kirk Jr.; and his sister, Loreen Kirk. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Robert Allen Kirk, David Lee Kirk, and Mary Lynn Kirk.

A memorial service to honor Richard’s life will take place with full military honors on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Florence National Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina. Friends, family, and former colleagues are encouraged to join in celebrating the legacy of a man who made a significant impact on the lives of many.
