Born on July 18, 1929, in Jacksonville, Florida, Gene was a standout athlete at Duncan U. Fletcher High School, where he played as the quarterback for the football team and served as player-coach for the baseball team. Shortly after graduating in 1947, he joined the United States Air Force, just three years after D-Day and before turning 18.

During his military career, Gene rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, serving over 20 years with his final assignment at the 4756 Air Base Group. He married Lorraine Burns in 1948 after a whirlwind blind date, and together they raised their two daughters and enjoyed a long life together until her passing.

In 1973, Gene married Nancy Mann, with whom he shared more than 45 years until her death in 2018. The couple enjoyed traveling, fine dining, and spending quality time together.

Following his military service, Gene transitioned into a successful career in real estate, dedicating over 40 years to serving the Florida panhandle community before retiring after the age of 80. He was known for his commitment to family, his love for old war movies, and his passion for the beach.

He will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family and community. A visitation will be held on February 5, 2026, from 12 PM to 1 PM at Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home, with services following. Military Honors and interment will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2 PM.
