James William Wood, 74, of Pace, Florida, Passes Away

James (Jim) William Wood, aged 74, of Pace, Florida, passed away on July 18, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

Born on July 24, 1951, in Higginsville, Missouri, Jim was the son of William Eugene (Gene) and Jimmie Jean (Anson) Wood. He graduated from Chillicothe High School and continued his education at Northwest Missouri State University, earning his degree in 1974.

Jim began his career with the Frisco/Burlington North Railroad, working in Savannah, Tampa, and Pensacola from 1974 to 1984. He later joined GST Shipping and transitioned to ReTrans Intermodal in 2002, remaining there until his retirement in 2015.

On September 19, 1984, he married Linda Jean Clapp in Rye, New York. Jim was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe and earned his Eagle Scout award through the Boy Scouts of America. In recent years, he attended Saint Andrews Anglican Church in Pensacola.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and several family members, including his sister-in-law Ginger Clapp and brothers-in-law from New York and Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda (Clapp) Wood; his brother Dennis Michael (Mike) Wood and sister-in-law Julie of Leawood, Kansas; several sisters-in-law from Alabama and New York; brothers-in-law from Connecticut and Pensacola; as well as ten nieces and nephews and forty-four great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel located at 4777 W. Spencer Field Road, Pace, Florida 32571. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Waterfront Rescue Mission at 348 W Herman Ave, Pensacola, Florida, 32505.
