Patricia Laney Brinson, affectionately known as Pat, was born on November 2, 1928, in Chipley, Florida. She was the youngest of five daughters born to Jeremiah Columbus Laney and Ila Belle Williams. Pat’s fond childhood memories included playing games, shopping with her mother, and learning music, a tradition she continued with her own family.

Pat graduated from Chipley High School, where she was active in journalism, drama, and music. After high school, she attended Florida State College for Women, which later became Florida State University. It was during her time there that she met James Randall Brinson, whom she married in 1950. The couple initially settled in Columbia, South Carolina, where Pat taught English and sang in the church choir.

In 1958, the family relocated to Pensacola, allowing Pat to be closer to her extended family. They became members of First United Methodist Church, where Pat was deeply involved in church activities and community service. After raising her children, she pursued a Master’s degree in English from the University of West Florida and went on to work at Pensacola Junior College, retiring in 1991.

Following retirement, Pat and Jim traveled extensively and enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Pat was also dedicated to community service, volunteering with organizations such as the Pensacola Historical Society and Gulf Coast Kids House.

Patricia Brinson passed away peacefully on April 10, leaving behind her four children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her family expresses gratitude for her life and the love and lessons she imparted.

A private memorial service will be held for family members. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Brinson Laney Music Scholarship at First United Methodist Church in Pensacola.
