Susan Godwin Levine, a cherished member of the Pensacola community, passed away at her home on May 17, 2026, after bravely battling ALS. She was surrounded by family, close friends, and her loyal dog, Jackson, who remained by her side until the end.
Born on October 24, 1952, in Pensacola to Alma and Despina Godwin, Susan was a graduate of Escambia High School. Her career began in the dental field before she transitioned to serve as an administrative assistant to W.D. Childers in Tallahassee. Susan continued her career in the Florida Legislature until her retirement.
Known for her kindness and warmth, Susan brought joy to many throughout her life. She married Dr. Phil Levine, and together they were active contributors to the Pensacola community. The couple opened P.J. Sweets in Cordova Commons, where they served ice cream and meals, and frequently entertained guests in their home.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sylvia, as well as her husband, Phil. She was a longtime member of Temple Beth-El, and her family expresses gratitude to Rabbi Joel Fleekop for his support during her final days.
She is survived by her sister, Janet Elaine Davis (Mike), her nephew Jason Davis, whom she lovingly raised, and many friends and relatives. Jason’s wife, Saralyn, and their daughter, Emi-Ann, who affectionately called Susan YiaYia (Greek for grandmother), will always cherish her loving spirit.
With a deep love for animals, Susan generously supported East Hill Animal Hospital. Her family extends special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and her dedicated caregivers, including nurse Amanda and team members Laura Thompson and Christine Moore, who provided her with exceptional care during her last days.
