James Ray Dunlap, a beloved resident of Cantonment, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 30, 1942, in Milton, Florida, to Otha James and Dollie Mae Dunlap.
Ray graduated from Milton High School in 1960 and began his career as a local radio DJ. He was best known for his long tenure as a leading salesman for Sears, particularly in the appliance department. After his time at Sears, he worked with Washington Mutual/Citi Financial and also served in valet parking at West Florida Hospital. He returned to sales at Barrows Furniture before retiring. Ray was also a familiar voice on the airwaves, hosting a Sunday morning radio program from Olive Baptist Church.
Known for his warm personality and sharp sense of humor, Ray had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying fishing, birdwatching, gardening, and leisurely rides in his golf cart. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family.
Ray is survived by his sister Charlotte Brainard (Phil), sons David (Vicki), Jay (Dannielle), and Kevin (Mandy), grandchildren Katharine, Amber, Emily, TJ, Olivia, and Chase, as well as his great-grandson Kayce. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty Harrington.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Gonzalez Methodist Church. The family will welcome visitors from 4-5 PM, followed by the celebration service. Arrangements are being handled by Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home.
