Wanda grew up in the Lafayette, Indiana area before embarking on a new chapter in her life. In 1974, she made a significant move with her three children, relocating 1,200 miles to Fort Myers, Florida. This transition marked the beginning of a journey that would see her become a dedicated public servant.
After returning to school, Wanda began her career with the State of Florida’s Aging and Adult Services in 1977. It was there that she met Mike Horgan, and their relationship blossomed. On St. Patrick’s Day in 1979, they were married and started a 47-year partnership filled with love and support. The couple later moved to Pensacola, where Wanda continued her work for Children and Youth Services and the Department of Juvenile Justice for 30 years.
Despite facing challenges, Wanda welcomed another child, a son, in 1985. She cherished her family, enjoyed spending time by the pool and beach, and had a passion for music, often singing along to her husband Mike’s guitar. Wanda maintained connections with her family and friends through social media and loved sharing moments with her grandchildren.
Wanda is survived by her husband Mike, children Donald Dimmitt, Lora Lowe, Melissa Becker, and Michael Horgan, along with 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Gloria Jean Jarrard, brother James William “Mike” Manion, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Wanda was a nurturing and generous woman who preferred to uplift others from behind the scenes, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Her loving spirit will be greatly missed.
