A 1951 graduate of Lucedale High School, Mona was an active participant in various school activities, including band and Future Homemakers of America. She furthered her education at Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee, where she met her husband, Harold Mobley. The couple married on December 19, 1952, at Rocky Creek Church of Christ.
Throughout their marriage, Mona and Harold lived in several locations, including Jackson, Mississippi, and various towns in Texas, where their three children—Stephen, Tamara, and Twayne—were born. In 1961, they answered a call to missionary work in Florence, Italy, where their youngest child, Timothy, was born. The family dedicated a decade to serving the local community and learning the Italian language and culture.
In 1971, they moved to Montreal, Canada, where they established an Italian-speaking congregation. After five years, the family returned to Texas before relocating to Pensacola in 1989 to serve with the Gateway Church of Christ and later Warrington Church of Christ.
Mona was renowned for her work as a Bible teacher and lecturer. She published five books, including “Joyful Hospitality,” which became a popular resource for women’s Bible studies. Additionally, she founded Humanitarian Relief International in the late 1990s, providing support to orphans and hospitalized children in Ukraine.
She is survived by her children Tamara Tate (Tim), Harold Twayne Mobley (Jeri), and Timothy Mobley (Corey), as well as her sisters Roci Cottrell and Cassandra Devitt, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and other family members.
According to her husband Harold, “everyone loved Mona.” In her memory, the family welcomes donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Emerald Coast Hospice.
