William Edward “Spooky” Franklin, a cherished member of the Pensacola community, passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on February 15, 1950, in Evergreen, Alabama, he was the son of the late William and Annie Ruth Lindsey Franklin.

A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1967, William furthered his education at Florida Memorial College in Miami, a historic HBCU now known as Florida Memorial University. His dedication to education was evident throughout his life, as he served as both an educator and mentor, leaving a lasting impact on many.

William was known for his vibrant personality and ability to light up a room with his smile and humor. His friends often remarked on his sharp style and confidence. He had a passion for music, travel, and family gatherings, particularly with his Class of ’67 alumni. William’s life philosophy centered around resilience and the belief in second chances, inspiring those around him to face challenges with strength.

Family was paramount to William. He is survived by his sons, Bakari and Kimani Franklin; grandchildren, Amari and Bakari Jr.; sister Janize Franklin Houze; brother Ricardo Franklin; daughter-in-law Jennifer Franklin; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents.
