Remembering Edward Harold Blackwell: A Life of Service in Pensacola

Edward Harold Blackwell, a beloved member of the Pensacola community, passed away on June 28, 2026. Born in Meridian, Mississippi, on September 2, 1936, he was raised in a close-knit family with nine siblings in Runnelstown, MS.

After earning his degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Blackwell moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he began a career in education. He taught fifth grade at Oakland Heights Elementary School and served as the Audio-Visual Coordinator for Okaloosa County, all while completing his master’s degree in education at the University of West Florida. His innovative approach to teacher training through videotaping was notably successful.

Blackwell’s career in education culminated in his role as Assistant Principal and Curriculum Coordinator at Lewis Junior High School, where he was well-respected for his dedication and leadership. He also enjoyed building homes and woodworking projects in his retirement, often constructing items for local churches, including stages and pulpits.

A passionate gardener, Blackwell was known for his delicious tomatoes and shared his harvest with many. His love for music shone through during his time as Choir Director at Oakland Baptist Church and Wright Baptist Church, and he was a cherished member of East Brent Baptist Church in Pensacola for many years.

In his later years, he attended Christ Community Baptist Church, where he was appreciated for his reliability and kind nature. Blackwell was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Enfinger Blackwell, children, step-sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held to honor Edward Blackwell on July 7, 2026, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens located at 7433 Pine Forest Rd, Pensacola, FL 32526. The schedule includes a family visitation at 9:30 AM, public visitation at 10:00 AM, and a service beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service.
