Dennis Lloyd Resor, aged 81, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, following a brain hemorrhage three days earlier. He is survived by his daughter Lauren Green, son-in-law Travis Green, and grandson Ethan Green. Dennis was previously married to Pat and had a son, Ed, both of whom preceded him in death.
Born on January 8, 1945, in Bureau, Illinois, Dennis grew up in a musical household, as both his parents were musicians. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago in 1967. Dennis dedicated much of his early career to education, serving as the musical director at Henry-Senachwine High School, where he was recognized as an outstanding educator in May 1968.
His service to the community extended beyond education. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, Dennis served in Vietnam from November 1969 to October 1971, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning a Bronze Star for his service. He often remarked that his typing skills learned in high school helped him avoid frontline combat.
In 1977, Dennis moved to Live Oak to become the Music Minister at The First United Methodist Church, where he served for 30 years. His contributions included leading youth trips and being involved in various church activities. He earned the title of Diaconal Minister before retiring in 2007. Dennis later served part-time at Grace Presbyterian Church in Panama City until his full retirement in 2015.
On Valentine’s Day in 1979, Dennis married Pat Woodbery and embraced a new family, becoming a stepfather to Ed and Lauren. He was not only musically talented but also excelled in carpentry, creating a welcoming living space that became a hub for family gatherings over the years.
After the passing of his wife Pat in 2005, Dennis moved to Panama City to be near his son Ed. The two shared memorable experiences traveling and building a strong relationship through their shared grief. Dennis found joy in music, particularly singing in the choir and playing with the Pensacola Bay Concert Band. He also developed a passion for model trains, creating intricate displays and hosting a model train club at his home.
In 2015, Dennis relocated to Pensacola to be closer to his daughter Lauren’s family. Unfortunately, he faced health challenges, suffering a brain hemorrhage in 2019, which led to his move into assisted living at Wesley Haven Villas in March 2022. His family expresses gratitude for the care he received there as well as at HCA West Florida Hospital and Vitas Hospice.
A memorial service will take place on July 10 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church located at 6 E. Wright Street in Pensacola. A separate service in Live Oak will be scheduled soon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dennis’s memory to the Pensacola Bay Concert Band and the Methodist Children’s Home.
