Nelda Williams Tronu, a cherished member of the Pensacola community, passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2026, just two weeks before her 99th birthday. Surrounded by her loving family, Nelda’s legacy is one of compassion and unwavering dedication.
Born on June 20, 1927, to Lyle and Basha Williams, Nelda was a lifelong resident of Pensacola. She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1945 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, followed by a nursing degree from Emory University in 1950. During her time at Emory, she was recognized for her leadership as the President of the Nursing Student Body.
After marrying her beloved husband, Anthony “Tony” Giglio Tronu, Nelda worked as a nurse for the Escambia County School Board. However, her true passion lay in nurturing her family, as she devoted herself to raising her children. Nelda continued to embody the spirit of caregiving, always helping family, friends, and those in need with great energy and compassion.
Her marriage with Tony was built on faith, love, and service to their family and community. A devout Catholic, Nelda was actively involved in her church and her children’s schools, earning the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Medal of Honor for her outstanding volunteer work.
Known for her generosity, quick wit, love of baseball, and strong faith, Nelda will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her life was a testament to service and grace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church or a charity of your choice. They express gratitude to the caring staff at Vitas Hospice and the many caregivers who have been a part of their lives.
A reception will be held in the Church Hall following the committal services to honor Nelda’s life and legacy.
