Zoe Claire Petro, a beloved member of the Perdido Key community, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2026, surrounded by family after a brave fight against ALS.

Born on May 1, 1947, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Zoe met her husband, Emile Petro, at just 14 years old. The couple enjoyed 61 years of marriage, cherishing their time together and raising a family.

In her earlier years, Zoe was a cheerleader at Hattiesburg High School and served as the National Mom of the Phi Kappa fraternity in 1976. She was also known for her role at Gulf Coast Trophies before relocating to Perdido Key, where she became an integral part of the local community.

In Perdido Key, Zoe worked in accounting and boat closings for Edgewater Yacht Sales, and took pride in decorating the local restaurant, especially during the festive season. Known for her impeccable taste, she had a unique ability to bring out beauty in everything around her.

A dedicated member of Perdido Bay Baptist Church, Zoe was a prayer leader and contributed to the community through her project of creating banners for the church. “She was quick to accept the duty of saying the blessing at dinner and always did so with honesty and tenderness,” a family member remarked.

Zoe’s interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. She loved gardening, crafting special moments, and sharing her culinary creations, especially her signature G-Mama Cake. She cherished time spent with family, whether it was enjoying a meal or working on 1000-piece puzzles.

She is survived by her husband Emile, their two children, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, who will remember her for her loyalty, high standards, and loving spirit.

A memorial service honoring Zoe’s life will take place on June 12, 2026, at Perdido Bay Baptist Church, with a visitation at 10:30 am followed by the service at 11:30 am. A second celebration will be held in Hattiesburg on June 13, 2026, at St. Fabian Church.
