Remembering Zoe Claire Petro: A Life of Love and Faith in Perdido Key

Zoe Claire (Breckenridge) Petro, a beloved member of the Perdido Key community, passed away peacefully at her home on June 9, 2026, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on May 1, 1947, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Zoe met her husband, Emile Petro, at the young age of 14, and they shared 61 wonderful years together.

Throughout her life, Zoe made significant contributions to her community. In Hattiesburg, she was a cheerleader at Hattiesburg High and became the National Mom of the Phi Kappa fraternity in 1976. After relocating to Perdido Key, she worked at Edgewater Yacht Sales, managing accounting and boat closings, and was known for her holiday decorating at the local restaurant.

Zoe was not just a professional; she was a woman of faith and community spirit. A member of Perdido Bay Baptist Church, she led prayers and created unique banners for the church, often saying the blessing at meals with warmth and sincerity. Her dedication to her faith and community will be greatly missed.

Her hobbies included crafting, gardening, and cooking, with a special fondness for her tomato harvest and creating memories with her family. Zoe had a talent for making every moment special, whether it was enjoying a meal at Taco Bell or watching a favorite series. Her resilience shone through as she tackled 1,000-piece puzzles during her illness, gifting completed puzzles to loved ones.

Zoe leaves behind her husband, Emile, and their children, Penny Clarke (Joe) and Emile Petro III (Jill), along with 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

A celebration of her life will take place on June 12, 2026, at Perdido Bay Baptist Church, starting with visitation at 10:30 AM, followed by a service at 11:30 AM. A second celebration will occur in Hattiesburg, MS, on June 13, 2026, at St. Fabian Church.
